What happens when established choreographers radically condense the format – distilling dance films into just a few seconds? Cologne Shorts is Moovy’s artistic response: a series of experimental miniatures in the style of digital formats like TikTok – precise, pointed, and surprising. And they can be found as QR codes all across Cologne, exactly where the videos were created.
Their dance miniatures break new ground not only formally but also spatially: the pieces were created directly in Cologne’s urban spaces – at bus stops, on squares, in passageways, and transitional sites.
Köln Shorts makes dance visible where it is least expected. Through QR codes, passers-by can view the films right at their shooting locations. Cologne itself becomes stage, projection surface – and digital platform. Dance art thus shifts into everyday life, becoming spontaneous, site-specific, and accessible.
The project combines artistic quality with the language of today’s media culture and also invites younger audiences to rediscover dance film. Moovy warmly thanks all participating artists for their openness, curiosity, and courage to embrace radical brevity.
Five renowned Cologne choreographers took on the challenge:
- Stephanie Thiersch: ZOON – Drifting through nocturnal Cologne, half creature, half memory, following instinct and resistance in a city that sleeps with one eye open
- Bibiana Jiménez, XXTanz-Theater: PEREGRINA – Dance is my homeland
- Emanuele Soavi: DIE SCHWELLE (The Threshold)
- Michael Maurissens: CLICK
- Tim Behren: UNTITLED
