ALL IT TAKES

Germany 2022 | 24 minutes
Director: Meritxell Aumedes | Choreography: Meritxell Aumedes & Emanuele Soavi

Synopsis

Two enigmatic figures – a man in a black coat, carrying a small suitcase, and a woman with a bandaged chest, lying on a bed – encounter mysterious symbols that represent dark and yet hopeful stations. A journey of transformation through longing and the search for fulfilment and wholeness. A poetic approach to the duality of body and soul, embedded in a silent performance with music and hand-drawn animations.

COBRA

COBRA

Germany 2022 | 6 minutes
Director: Reut Shemesh & Ronni Shendar | Choreography: Reut Shemesh

Synopsis

In their short film, choreographer Reut Shemesh and filmmaker Ronni Shendar take a close look at the all-female dance guards of the Rhineland carnival and thematise the power of the collective and the individual. The long tradition of carnival stands for exuberant celebrations, but is also inextricably linked to German history. The “guards” draw on popular culture when they combine dance, military drill and the “ideal” representation of women. Underneath the blonde wig, the lip gloss and the blue velvet uniform, however, lies the desire to portray an authentic identity – if there can be such a thing.

Synopsis

Being in a gym. Running on a treadmill. Letting your perception shift so that you can perceive the choreography of the space around you. Inspired by the tenacity of muscles, body fluids, sweat and skin, this film oscillates between everyday movement and dance. Contemplation and action. Contemplation in action. Sensing and feeling the space. Skin and metal. Warm and cold. Inside and outside. A pause for thought. Longing. A certain loneliness.

RETURN

United Kingdom 2022 | 15 minutes
Director & Choreography: Hofesh Shechter

Synopsis

“Being Alive” was the theme that Eric Gauthier gave his artist in residence for his anniversary film – and where does Hofesh Shechter celebrate? In the morgue. “I don’t think there’s a better way to celebrate than through the lens of death. It gives you a real perspective on life, gives it meaning in a way,” says the London-based choreographer, who loves dance films and is responsible for the choreography, music, camera and editing here.
